Update on the Legislature’s new Testimony Submission System

The Maine State Legislature has implemented a new system for submitting testimony.  However, emailed testimony will still be accepted through the end of the current session.

Things you need to know:

  • Whatever you submit in the body of your document or email will be displayed publicly.  DO NOT put personal information that you do not want available to the public or online in your message.
  • Testimony for each bill will accepted through the website after the hearing, but to be displayed and listed as “testimony” on the website, it must be submitted before the end of the day of its Public Hearing. Testimony received after the date of the public hearing will not be published online.
  • It will take up to two business days after the conclusion of the public hearing for your submission to appear on the website.
  • Your name and the organization you represent or the town in which you live will appear online with posting of your testimony. Your email will not display publicly.
  • You must select the bill by committee and date of the hearing from the list displayed in order to use the website to submit testimony.
  • At this time, bills scheduled more than a few days out are not on the drop-down lists, so you cannot use the form for unscheduled bills.

If you want to ensure that your email on a specific bill is received by a full committee or a specific legislator, we recommend that you directly email the legislator(s). That way, they will receive it and will have your contact information in case they want to follow up with you.

Here is the new Testimony Submission Website.
